About J.R. Damron

J.R. DamronDr. Damron is a radiologist from Santa Fe providing diagnostic radiology services to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, Santa Fe Imaging Center, Los Alamos Medical Center and the Santa Fe Indian Health Hospital. He has practiced medicine in Santa Fe since 1984.

Dr. Damron received his Medical Degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, completed a Radiology Residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, and a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center in Albuquerque. He was an Assistant Professor of Radiology, and Acting Chief, Division of Nuclear Medicine, at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in the mid 70’s. He also was a partner in a private radiology practice in Lexington, Kentucky from 1977-1984.

Dr. Damron has been associated with numerous professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, Radiology Society of North America, American College of Nuclear Physicians and the New Mexico Medical Society. He is the author of several peer-reviewed articles and is Board Certified in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

Dr. Damron has received several local and national awards, including the Capitol Dome award and the Physician’s Award for Outstanding Service from the American Cancer Society. He has also received several awards and appointments from the National Republican Congressional Committee: Republican of the Year in 2006, Physicians Advisory Board, 2006 Physician of the Year and 2008 Presidential Commission. He serves on the state New Mexico Cancer Council and on other New Mexico state supporting committees and task forces.

Dr. Damron has been Treasurer of the Santa Fe County Republican Party, served on their Executive Committee and currently serves on the Santa Fe County Central Committee as well as on the State Republican Executive Committee and State Central Committee. He was a National Delegate in 2008 to the Republican National Convention and was the Republican candidate for Governor in 2006.

Community service has always been an important aspect of Dr. Damron’s commitment to society. He served as Vice President of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Santa Fe, member of Rotary International Service Club and an Elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Santa Fe. He has also coached a women’s city softball team in Santa Fe. Dr. Damron served on the National Board of the American Cancer society and has chaired several national committees for the ACS. He also served as President of the New Mexico Division of the ACS and was a camp counselor at Camp Enchantment, a state-wide camp for children with cancer.

Dr. Damron has been a developer of both residential and commercial property in and around Santa Fe. His hobbies include golf, snow skiing, reading, exercising, and gardening. Dr. Damron’s wife, Barbara, is an oncology nurse with a PhD in psychology. They have two children, Matt and Allie, who are 21 and 19 years old. The family lives in Santa Fe.
